Price
Yes. Arpente is free, with no ads, no subscription and no account.
Account
No. Arpente works without an account or sign-up. Your journal is stored on your iPhone and synced with your private iCloud, which we can’t access.
The idea
Not really. Arpente doesn’t rank you, compare your pace or push you to go faster. It keeps a journal of where you’ve been: a 2 km walk around the block is as worth keeping as an 18 km hike in the mountains.
Privacy
Only you. There’s no public profile, no feed and no followers. Your routes show where you live and where you walk, so they stay on your iPhone and in your iCloud, and we never receive them.
Recording
Tap the record button and put your iPhone in your pocket. Arpente draws your route with GPS and measures the distance, time and elevation gain. Add a note or a photo along the way, then tap Finish when you’re back.
Backups
Your journal syncs with your iCloud and comes back on your new iPhone, with every route, note and photo.
GPX
Yes. Each route can be exported as a GPX file, the open format that most mapping and hiking apps can read.
Android
No. Arpente is available for iPhone, in English and French.
